A Banarasi saree is a saree made in Vanarasi , a city which is also called Benaras or Banaras. the sarees are among the finest sarees in india & are known for their gold & silver brocade or zari , fine silk & embroidery.. these saree are made of finely woven silk & are decorated with inticrate design & because of these engravings,are relatively heavily.
Their special characteristics are mughal inspired design such as inticate intertwinig floral & floriate motifs & bel, a string of upright leaves called Jhallar at the outer, edge of the border is a characteristics of these sarees. other feature are gold work ,compact weaving : figures with small details ,metallic visual effect,pallus,jal(net like pattern) & mina work.
